We had a couple of visitors from the Television at the end of last year. One being the lovely Jane McDonald when she was recording ‘Jane & Friends’ for Channel 5. The episode was aired on Friday 16 March and showed Jane entering our Centre along with the Sports and Events Hall. She came to surprise a super fan of hers called Ryan. Ryan was here with his Choir performing for our Active 60+ group who meet here every Monday. Ryan and his Choir also got to perform with Jane at the Channel 5 studios at a later date which was also aired on the show.
Lottie the Lion and Darcie, ‘our occasional office help’ also got to meet Jane ‘behind the scenes’, or rather upstairs in our Studio as it were for a photo opportunity 😉 (please see two photos below)
MTV also paid us a visit to do some filming for the popular show ‘Teen Mom UK’ while Mia, one of the Mums on the show along with her daughter Marliya, took part in Starz Ballet Babes which are here on Friday mornings upstairs in Studio 6. The second series started on Wednesday 14th March at 8pm so keep a look out to see if you can see the wonderful Ballet Babes in action in our recently refurbished Dance, Art and Fitness Studio.
We have recently had our hall floor re-sealed and our 30 year old lights changed to brand new LED lights. What a difference the two changes have made! We also had new carpets and flooring laid throughout the Foyer and Coffee shop area. The foyer and surrounding are has just been redecorated by a local tradesman in time for our groups returning after the Summer Holidays.
We had our kitchen refurbished not too long ago, with new worktops, sinks and splash backs, a fresh lick of paint and a new floor. We have also had some ‘made to measure’ cupboard and draw fronts kindly made by one of our trustees sons! All this has been done on a tight budget with help from the trustees and a grant given to Communicare, who run the Coffee shop. It’s so nice to see our 30 year old building being updated to feel more welcoming 🙂
Our Activity Room has now been changed into a Dance and Fitness Studio with the help of some well needed Community Funding and ALOT of hard work and time from Ray, our Treasurer and Trustee along with Nigel from NEB House Maintenance. This was something Ray was passionate about from the start when our Charity, Lockswood Community and Sports Association took over the running of the Centre from Fareham Borough Council. The refurb was finally completed in April this year. The room has been named ‘Studio 6’, in honour of the original 6 volunteers that formed the Charity ‘Lockswood Community & Sports Association’ back in 2014. It was officially opened on Wednesday 19 April by the Mayor of Fareham, Connie Hockley. The event was a great success, attended by many representatives from Fareham Borough Council, Regular Users & Groups at the Centre, along with Trustees and Staff. We had special performances from Starz Ballet Babes and Bodyrox Productions, followed by Tea & Cake downstairs in the Foyer.
The Showers and Changing rooms have also had a refurbishment around the same time as the Studio…just the toilets to go next which are hopefully being started in the Summer holidays too.
Exciting stuff for the foreseeable future here at Lockswood Community Centre, much of which could not be done without the help and support from our Volunteers, Hirers and Users and also our local Community.
